Mathew Street filled with both Dortmund and Liverpool fans in harmony singing You'll Never Walk Alone this afternoon. Respect!
Sammy King came to the Academy as an inexperienced 14 year old boy in 2013. He was small, struggling technically, and did not understand the game, BUT he had the desire and determination to improve.
Three and a bit years later, we estimate Sammy has trained about 1,600 hours at the Academy, plus many more hours privately, along the way banking around 1,000,000 purposeful touches on the ball! Now at age 17, Sammy is a fit athletic competent young Footballer with the world at his feet.
All of this hard work will be tested when he flies out to Germany tomorrow to trial with Bundesliga 2 league leaders, SC Freiburg, who are almost guaranteed promotion into the top-flight Bundesliga next season.
When asked about his football, Sammy stated "Without Gary and the Academy, I could never have developed into the Footballer I am today. Gary has given me opportunities to play against teams like Manchester Utd, Liverpool and Newcastle, and has taught me so much about the game".
All of the boys back at the Academy will be cheering for you Sammy. Good luck and get stuck in!!!
Our Nerang U15 boys have taken out the TSS Easter Tournament 2-1 over Noosa in the final today. Noosa parked the bus from the kick-off, which made for a very boring and frustrating game. Our boys should have won by a much bigger margin but their shooting radar was off, missing countless opportunities from close range. Max was awarded player of the tournament, and Josh was the leading goalscorer with 11 goals.
The younger brigade fought out a 2-2 draw with Buderim in their last game this morning. It was a tough tournament for them playing up a year, but they had some good wins and learnt a lot.
A huge thanks to Tommy and Dion for coaching the boys in Gary's absence.

AFA have officially been crowned the winners of the Sunshine Automotive Gold Coast Community Fund for March.
The prize is an extremely useful $2,000 that will go towards equipment and training for our junior players.
A big THANK-YOU to Sunshine Automotive for supporting the Gold Coast community this way.
Also, thanks to Julie for nominating us, and also all of the wonderful people who voted for us, especially those fanatical (obsessed!!!) voters late in the month.
Well done to everyone!
